Recent and upcoming events of interest to fire service women

 
The 11th International Conference of Fire Service Women will be held in Montgomery County, Maryland (just outside Washington, D.C) March 29-April 3, 2005. Registration information will be posted in late December.
   
  The Illinois Fire Service Institute will hold a training session for women firefighters on Saturday, February 19, in Frankfort, Illinois, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The registration fee is $50. Madison, Wisconsin, Fire Chief Debra Amesqua will be the luncheon speaker. For more information, e-mail .
   
  The Women Chief Fire Officers held its annual conference in San Diego, November 11-14, 2004. This year's theme was "Stepping up: Creating Positive Synergy for Effective Leadership." More information about WCFO is available at www.womenfireofficers.org.
   
  The 3rd annual Fire Service Women of New York State Training Weekend was held September 24-26, 2004 at the Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls.
  The British women firefighters organization, Networking Women in the Fire Service, held its fifth international conference at the Fire Service College in Moreton-on-Marsh June 11-13, 2004. More information is available at www.nwfs.net.
   
  The women of the Los Angeles City Fire Department celebrated 25 years of women working for the department at a dinner and awards ceremony in Hollywood April 2, 2004.
   
  Women in the Fire Service held its 6th biennial Fire Service Women's Leadership Training Seminar at the Wyndham Miami Beach Resort in Miami, Florida, March 25-28, 2004.
   
  The fire departments of Atlanta and East Point, Georgia, celebrated the achievement of Chief Rosemary Roberts Cloud, who became the first African-American woman fire chief in the country when she took over the reins of the East Point Fire Department. A dinner in her honor was held on June 7, 2002, at the Hilton Atlanta Airport. See photos of the event.
   
  Japanese fire service women held a meeting in Yokohama April 28, 2002. More than 100 people attended. Click here for a pair of brief reports on the event.
   
  A celebration of "20 Years of Women in Smokejumping" took place in Sun Valley, Idaho, on December 7, 2001. The day featured an inspiring program of speakers, including Deanne Shulman, the first woman smokejumper. It was rounded out with great slide and videotape presentations, and a banquet and dance.
