Seasonal Jobs with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection

Step Up to an Exciting Career

As a member of a fire crew, a Fire Fighter I fights wildland, rural and structural fires, responds to various other emergency situations including medical emergencies, repairs equipment and is responsible for general station housekeeping.

Fire Fighter I is a seasonal, temporary classification. A Fire Fighter I is usually hired in April, May or June, and the length of employment is typically between six to nine months, depending on the duration and intensity of the fire season. Being a Fire Fighter I can lead to a permanent career with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF).
