Firefighter

F-60 Level. Beginning Salary: $31,561. Range up to $46,592.
Washington National and Washington Dulles International Airports


The Authority is seeking Firefighters with experience in structural and/or crash fire rescue operations to include fire prevention, suppression, rescue, salvage and emergency medical service techniques. Qualified candidates will meet the following criteria within their application package:

? ?a. be at least eighteen (18) years of age by date of employment;
? ?b. be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate;
? ?c. provide a copy of current valid driver's license from state of residence; [Note: Maryland residents must have Class 'B' endorsement]
? ?d. have documented at least 1 year of experience as a career structural OR aircraft firefighter, or 2 years of verifiable experience as an active volunteer firefighter with demonstrated experience on the fireground in rescue and fire control. Volunteer experience will be compared/credited against an average of 56 hours per week or 2912 hours per year.
? ?e. provide a copy of current (showing effective and expiration dates) EMT-A/B Certification (or higher) from the Virginia State Department of Health, or a state certification which is recognized by the State of Virginia, or National Registry.


Candidates are also subject to a job knowledge test, an oral interview, a physical agility test, and a thorough background investigation (to include a full employment history check; a credit check; a criminal history check; and a driving record check). A physical examination to include drug testing will be performed prior to first day of hire. Employees will be assigned to one of three (24-hour) shifts working an average 56-hour work week. Employees must pass annual medical testing criteria.

The Authority is seeking Firefighters/Emergency Medical Technicians - Cardiac with experience in structural and/or crash fire rescue operations to include fire prevention, suppression, rescue, salvage and specialized emergency medical service techniques. Qualified candidates will meet the following criteria within their application package:

? ?a. be at least eighteen (18) years of age by date of employment;
? ?b. be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate;
? ?c. provide a copy of current valid driver's license from state of residence; [Note: Maryland residents must have Class 'B' endorsement]
? ?d. have documented at least 1 year of experience as a career structural OR aircraft firefighter, or 2 years of verifiable experience as an active volunteer firefighter with demonstrated experience on the fireground in rescue and fire control. ? ?e. authorized to practice independently in the field as an EMT-C (or higher)
? ?f. ?provide a copy of a current certification as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider by the American Heart Association
? ?g. ?provide a copy of a Virginia State Department of Health Certification Card as an Emergency Medical Technician - Cardiac (EMT-C) showing effective date and expiration dates. Candidates who have a certification equal to that of Virginia, and which is recognized by the State of Virginia, will be considered; however, they must acquire reciprocity in the State of Virginia within ninety days from their date of hire as a Firefighter/EMT-C with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority or their employment will be terminated.
? ?h. ?Once hired, EMT-C's must be accepted by the Authority's EMS Medical Director for independent practice as an EMT-C within the first year of employment.

EMT-C employees must maintain a performance level fully acceptable to the Authority's EMS Medical Director's established standards of proficiency and competence in order to function under his/her medical auspices. Failure to maintain a satisfactory performance level will be considered cause for termination, under proper procedures.
