Betty King Dennis

Betty King Dennis, a volunteer firefighter with the Centerville, North Carolina, Fire and Rescue Association, was struck and killed by a vehicle as she was directing traffic at the scene of a car crash on January 3, 2001. The accident took place at Research Triangle Park, where Dennis worked.

Dennis, who was 54, was wearing a reflective vest and using a flashlight at the time of the accident, which occurred in the early evening. A traffic light, which had been requested and denied at least twice before, has now been installed at the intersection where the crashes took place.
