This is professional and technical work of a complex nature in the investigation of fire origin and cause, enforcing compliance with City and State fire prevention codes, and the delivery of fire and life safety programs. Minimum Qualification: State of Florida Firefighter Standards Council Certificate of Tenure or Certificate of Compliance. State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector Certification. Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with major course work in fire science, criminal justice, public administration, or related areas, supplemented by appropriate graduate courses: and five years of progressively responsible experience in local or state government fire inspections; or an equivalent combination of education or experience.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES: State of Florida Firefighter Certification required. Must possess and maintain a current State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector Certification. A current State of Florida EMT Certification required at time of employment or ability to attain within six months of employment. Full qualifications as a Fire Investigative Services Officer preferred

NOTES: Work requires physical strength and agility sufficient to perform essential functions. Work may require the performance of tasks in extreme heat and confined areas. Work may require exposure to hazardous conditions and noxious chemicals. Work may require performance of tasks at elevated levels. Work may require exposure to prolonged noise levels. Work may require performance of tasks outdoors under varying conditions. Work requires the use of personal protection equipment including hearing protection, eye protection, foot protection, hand protection, and head protection. Must not have a conviction of any felony or a misdemeanor involving moral character, perjury or making false statements. Current lifestyle must be free of illegal drug use. Must be able to read and write the English language. Must meet eligibility requirements: formal application, review of education, experience and certifications, physical agility and skills test, oral interview, background check, pre-employment medical examination, and final selection. Work requires emergency call duty, alternating first call with Fire Investigative Services Officer. Must be able to respond within 30 minutes from residence to the City of Gainesville intersection of Main Street and University Avenue. Preference in initial appointment will be given to eligible veterans and spouses of veterans.
