 "No Mountain
Too High"

The 10th International Conference of Fire Service Women

April 23-27, 2003

Adam's Mark Hotel
Denver, Colorado

This is your invitation to attend one of the most exciting fire service conferences of the year!

For six days in late April. you can further your fire service education in a positive learning environment. In Denver, you'll meet with other women who share your commitment to the fire and rescue service, and who've "been there" -- and succeeded -- when it comes to working in a non-traditional field.

It's a great chance to recharge your batteries and re-energize yourself about your job. We hope to see you there!

WFS has been organizing conferences for more than seventeen years, and has consistently created events that are well-run, interesting, educational, and downright fun. In 2003, we bring it back to where it all began: Colorado, where we held the first-ever fire service women's conference in 1985.

Hosted by the Denver Fire Department, "No Mountain Too High" promises to be another great event in this long series of successful gatherings.Women and men from many area fire agencies are involved in the conference planning process, working hard to bring you an opportunity for education, networking, and battery-recharging that you won't want to miss!

We expect 450 to500 women and men from all aspects of the urban, rural, and wildland fire service to join us in Denver, and we hope you'll be among them.

Our workshops and seminars provide leadership development, classroom education on fire and EMS topics, valuable hands-on training to improve your job skills, tips on the promotional process, and valuable information and guidance on gender and diversity issues. Perhaps most importantly, we offer you the chance to meet, network, and make friends with fire and rescue service personnel from across the country and around the world.

Registration materials for the conference are available on this website; paper copies can be obtained by mail by or by calling 608/233-4768.

On Tuesday, April 22, we will start things off early with an all-day pre-conference trip to Colorado Springs, including visits to the Fallen Firefighters' Memorial, the Olympic Training Center, and Garden of the Gods. As alternate choice, there will be two afternoon sessions of workshops with a wildland fire focus. Attendees must choose between the trip and the workshops: you will not be able to return from Colorado Springs in time to attend the sessions. Our luncheon on Friday will feature Sub Officer Sian Griffiths, Sub Officer Sally Holloway, and Station Officer Tim Hoy, all of the London Fire Brigade, who will speak about the British firefighters' strike and their fight for pay equity. You won't want to miss this interesting and timely discussion! (Tickets for the Friday luncheon should be ordered with your conference registration. Luncheon tickets will not be available at the conference.)
On Wednesday, April 23, we offer a day of intensive seminars for those with more time to spend at the conference. Those registered for these seminars are also welcome to attend our "Welcome Back to Colorado" reception at the Denver Fire Museum on Tuesday evening. We will have two full days of exhibits, on Thursday and Friday, with fire service vendors from around the country. On Saturday, April 26, we present Fire Recruitment Expo 2003, a chance for recruiters and potential job candidates to meet and talk about career opportunities.
The main conference begins on Thursday morning with an opening ceremony, and includes workshops Thursday afternoon, all day Friday, Saturday morning, and Sunday morning. There is also a dinner and auction on Thursday night. The registration fee includes all of these events, as well as the opening reception on Wednesday evening, daily continental breakfasts, dinner Thursday night, and coffee breaks. Thanks in part to a donation from the Colorado Women's Foundation, free child care is offered throughout the conference. After the conference, there will be a 3-day all-women's trip to Glenwood Springs, where we can continue the camaraderie and networking of the conference in a more relaxed atmosphere and a smaller-group setting. A feature of this trip will be a hike of the Storm King Mountain Memorial Trail, which commemorates the spot where fourteen firefighters lost their lives in 1994. Check the box on the registration form to receive more information about trip costs and activities.

Important: All attendees who register on-site will be charged the on-site fee. If you have mailed or faxed in your registration but have not received a confirmation letter, we encourage you to call 608/233-4768 to confirm that you are registered. We can not be responsible for registrations we did not receive.

Accommodations

Rooms at the Adam's Mark Hotel (1550 Court Place, Denver CO 80202) for conference attendees are $109/night for singles, $119/double, plus tax (13.45%). For reservations, call 800/444-2326 and mention the Women in the Fire Service conference to obtain these special rates. Parking is available at the hotel for $12/day, or in nearby downtown parking lots. If you are flying to Denver, and do not specifically need a car, we recommend you not rent one. Downtown Denver is easily accessible on foot or by public transportation, and parking is both expensive and difficult to find.

The official conference airline is United Airlines. Call 800/521-4041 to make your reservations, and refer to Meeting ID Number 509NC to receive airfare discounts of 5-10% over any published fare. Ground transportation is provided by SuperShuttle from the Denver International Airport to and from the hotel, and is available for $30 round-trip if you use the coupon available on this website.

Special ski package

Keystone Resort is offering a special discounted package to attendees who want to come to Colorado early for some spring skiing and other mountain activities. Click here for more information.
