April Hopkin

April Hopkin, a volunteer firefighter with the Goulais River Fire Department in Ontario, Canada, was killed October 20, 2002, in a vehicle crash. Hopkin was driving on Highway 17 en route to her fire station to respond to a call when she collided with a SUV heading the other direction.

Hopkin, 21, had been a firefighter for about four years, and was the mother of two young children. "She was a dedicated individual and she was a great person," a captain with the GRFD told a local newspaper. "Everyone is very upset. It's like losing a member of the family."

The driver of the SUV was in serious condition following the crash, and his passenger suffered minor injuries.
